Why Smart City CA USA is Teaming Up to Solve Food Equity with Tech!
We have big news for the Bay Area: the movement to build smarter, more equitable cities is accelerating through key new collaborations!
Richard Wong (Smart City CA USA) and Rizwan Ashraf (Able Community/FoodHC) have formalized their partnership, agreeing to serve as board members for each other’s initiatives. This high-level collaboration ensures our impact is maximized as we focus on funding, civic engagement, and real-world solutions. The nonprofit organization Able Community’s Food Distribution for Humanity with Care! (FoodHC) governance operating model communities and interfaith food nonprofits, volunteers, civic leaders, and Women Business leaders to address the food crisis and waste into food equity and care for families, the elderly, children, and veterans.
Here’s where we are converging and why every city official and stakeholder should pay attention:
The Core Problem: Tackling Digital and Food Inequity
Our focus is addressing the critical challenges identified by FoodHC and Able Community. Millions face persistent barriers to accessing nutritious food because current distribution systems are fragmented, reactive, and technologically outdated, while underserved populations remain invisible. For example, Seniors, disabled individuals, middle-class families, single mothers, and unhoused neighbors often fall through the cracks.
The Solution: We are deploying a secure, accessible, and community-owned edge cloud infrastructure—built on principles of responsible AI and ethical data practices—to enable real-time inventory tracking, volunteer coordination, and collaboration. This is about ensuring equitable service delivery with dignity and efficiency.
Strategic Incentives for Collaboration
This partnership is designed to bring resources and political visibility to the most impactful projects:
Land Traffic Council: We are leveraging the Land Traffic Council platform to seek strategic collaborations and secure crucial funding and donations.
Civil Outreach: We are actively promoting this program to local politicians and key contacts within the Smart City Group and Coalition in San Jose to ensure our initiatives receive the political support necessary for widespread implementation.
Grant Opportunities: Our focus is on identifying weatherization programs and other funding avenues to immediately support these tech and equity initiatives. High-Profile Visibility and Outreach
To generate excitement and inform stakeholders, we are moving immediately on several fronts:
Promotional Materials: We are creating targeted promotional flyers and materials to clearly communicate our joint initiatives and accomplishments.
Timely Communication: Richard Wong’s upcoming trip to Cuba underscores the global relevance of current events to our work, emphasizing the need for timely communication with government officials about resilient, community-owned solutions.
